Holding an image of St. Dymphna, the patroness of mental health, Pope Leo expressed in his prayer that God knows the deepest struggles of the heart, referring to "the silent wounds that sometimes no one sees." He reflected on the struggles of those dealing with anxiety, depression, and other mental illnesses, and urged the Church to support them without judgment.

Pope Leo also called for forgiveness for moments when Christians have overlooked those suffering from mental illnesses, highlighting the stigma and discrimination that often accompany such conditions. He envisioned the Church as a community that listens without judgment and embraces individuals in need of support.

In addition to praying for those affected by mental health issues, the pope acknowledged the importance of caregivers, including professionals and volunteers, asking for strength and compassion for them.

He requested divine assistance in integrating mental health care into the broader life of the Church, becoming a sign of mercy that offers restoration and support.

According to the World Health Organization, over a billion people globally are affected by mental health disorders, while only about 2% of health budgets are allocated to mental health services. Jesuit Father Cristóbal Fones, the international director of the Pope’s Worldwide Prayer Network, noted that many individuals with mental health issues feel isolated or judged, underscoring the Church's role in providing support and understanding.
