Chanda Flynn, RN, MSN, the system's director of behavioral health services, emphasized the importance of this new unit, stating that families often had to travel long distances for inpatient care. She noted that the new unit will help bring essential services closer to home, thereby enhancing access to mental health treatment and support for youth and families in the community.
The unit will operate with a multidisciplinary team, including psychiatrists trained in child and adolescent care, and is focused on stabilizing patients before connecting them with ongoing outpatient and community-based support services.
