Authors Kylie O'Brien, Justin Beilby, Michael Lynskey, Michael Barnes, Anne Schlag, and David Nutt published findings on September 16, 2026, detailing the effects of high cannabidiol (CBD) oil on chronic pain and anxiety in Australia. The observational study, known as Project Twenty21 Australia, explored the use of medicinal cannabis for various conditions, including chronic pain, anxiety, post-traumatic stress disorder, and multiple sclerosis, monitoring patients for up to 12 months. This analysis focuses specifically on those prescribed CannC CBD3000/5000, a full-spectrum high CBD oil, for chronic pain or anxiety at a three-month follow-up.

CannC CBD3000/5000, available in 30 or 50 ml bottles with 100 mg/ml of CBD, is derived from two cannabis cultivars: Charlotte's Web and Charlotte's Angel. The study assessed pain severity and interference using the Brief Pain Inventory and evaluated anxiety with the Generalized Anxiety Disorder-7 Questionnaire. Secondary outcomes included mood/depression, quality of life, general health, and sleep quality.

Results from the three-month follow-up revealed significant improvements. Among 22 chronic pain patients prescribed only CannC CBD3000/5000, there were marked reductions in pain severity and mood/depression. In the case of 9 anxiety patients, significant enhancements in anxiety levels and mood/depression were also observed. When results were combined across both patient groups, there were notable improvements in overall health perception, mood, and sleep quality from the baseline at three months.

The study suggests that CannC CBD3000/5000 may be effective for managing chronic pain and anxiety. However, further research is required to explore the efficacy of full-spectrum CBD products in treating these common conditions.
