North Carolina Receives Almost $7 Million in Grants for Mental Health Services

Raleigh, N.C. — The North Carolina Department of Health and Human Services (NCDHHS) is set to receive nearly $7 million in grant funding from the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA) to enhance mental health services in the state.

More than $5 million of this funding will be allocated to improving the 988 Suicide and Crisis Lifeline, which has seen an increase in demand as it offers 24/7 support via phone, text, and chat for individuals at high risk of suicide or overdose. Additionally, SAMHSA has provided over $1 million specifically for increasing access to substance use disorder treatment for pregnant and postpartum women.

The NCDHHS will also utilize $750,000 to strengthen Mobile Crisis Teams operating in Bertie, Halifax, Hertford, and Northampton counties.
