Grey Hoult, a sophomore at Central High School, expressed surprise at the turnout for the club meeting, indicating its importance to students. Alongside junior Layla Yarborough, Hoult is part of "Our Minds Matter," a club that meets monthly at Central High School. Zoey Lauhon, a senior at Bellevue West High School and member of The Kim Foundation’s Youth Advisory Council, highlights a community-based approach to mental health initiatives. Lauhon noted the importance of understanding how to engage with peers facing difficulties, skills she gained from her involvement in mental health programs.
Linda Murillo Kennedy, a program specialist with The Kim Foundation, remarked that while stigma around mental health still exists, younger generations are increasingly open about these issues. She emphasized that students are insightful and capable of articulating their needs, suggesting a shift in how adults perceive youth perceptions.
