Kim Basinger Transitions to Vegan Diet amid Animal Rights Advocacy

Basinger's commitment to animal rights began early; she recalled writing her first letter to a local newspaper advocating for animals at seven or eight years old. She expressed her bewilderment over society's use of animals for profit and entertainment while considering them best friends.

Due to her advocacy history, it is not surprising that Basinger reportedly follows a vegan lifestyle. A source told Closer Weekly in 2025 that she has maintained a vegan diet for decades, adhering to a clean, plant-based regimen devoid of processed foods and sugar, while limiting alcohol intake. She emphasizes daily exercise routines, including stretches, light yoga, and walks in nature to stay mentally and physically fit.

While the exact date Basinger stopped eating meat is not clear, it is known that she became a vegetarian around the turn of the century. Her transition was notably highlighted when the now-closed Stage Deli in New York named a chicken-and-bacon sandwich after her in the late 1990s. However, after PETA's request for the deli to remove the sandwich due to her vegetarianism, the deli agreed to create a special vegetarian option in her honor.

Basinger’s daughter, Ireland Baldwin, who she shares with Alec Baldwin, has also explored a plant-based diet. In 2015, she announced a 21-day vegan challenge, motivated by health concerns and animal welfare.
