
RALEIGH, N.C. - The state of North Carolina is investing more than $17 million to enhance mental health services. This announcement was made on Wednesday by Governor Josh Stein and the Department of Health and Human Services. The state has also received over $213 million in federal funding for mental health and substance use services for the fiscal year 2026-27.

The funding will be allocated as follows:
- $4 million for Certified Community Behavioral Health Clinics
- $3 million to enhance access to medications for Opioid Use Disorder
- $4 million for Mobile Outreach, Response, Engagement, and Stabilization teams
- $3 million for Coordinated Specialty Care for first-episode psychosis response
- $2.9 million to establish regional Rural Crisis Partnerships
- $800,000 to expand NC MATTERS
These investments aim to improve access to healthcare in rural areas and modernize existing services.
