Pennington Biomedical Research Center Secures Funding Renewal for Obesity and Nutrition Research Until 2031

BATON ROUGE — LSU's Pennington Biomedical Research Center has been awarded a $5.66 million renewal of its Nutrition Obesity Research Center grant from the National Institute of Diabetes and Digestive and Kidney Diseases, extending the funding for another five years.

This marks the fifth renewal of funding for the center’s obesity and nutrition research, ensuring support through 2031, according to a spokesperson for Pennington.

Dr. Eric Ravussi, LSU Boyd Professor and program leader, stated that this renewal highlights the strength of the collaborative research community established over the past two decades. He noted that the NORC has cultivated one of the nation’s premier environments for nutrition and obesity research, facilitating innovation and discovery aimed at improving health.

The Pennington-Louisiana NORC is one of only 11 NIH-funded Nutrition Obesity Research Centers in the United States, joining renowned institutions such as Harvard University and the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.
