The 12-week trial showed that patients receiving a 100-microgram dose of the drug, named DT120, had an average reduction of 9.8 points on the Hamilton Anxiety Rating Scale. In contrast, the placebo group experienced a 4.7-point reduction. The 5.1-point difference in improvement is comparable to findings from Definium's initial late-stage anxiety trial and exceeds results seen with many existing anxiety treatments, although comparisons across studies can be challenging.
Definium is part of a growing group of biotechs approaching regulatory approval for psychedelic therapies, which may be appealing to patients due to their rapid onset of effects. According to the company's report, many patients began noticing changes as soon as two days post-dosing, unlike traditional antidepressants, which typically take weeks to show benefits.
