Neil Shepard, Ph.D., an assistant professor, noted, “NAMIWalks is a nice gathering of people from the community who are invested in supporting family, friends and neighbors with mental health struggles. It’s a beautiful event that brings people together for a wonderful cause.”
Participants can register to join or support Davenport's team, “Pounce on Stigma @ DU,” which features the university's mascot.
Check-in for the event begins at 8 a.m. At 9 a.m., NAMI representatives will provide inspiring remarks about their organization and resources available for those living with mental illnesses. Participants will then engage in a warm-up session led by Davenport’s dance team and spirit squad, with the walk scheduled to start at 10 a.m. Davenport’s band will also accompany walkers, providing musical encouragement along the route.
