The Bell Seal certification evaluates workplace practices in various domains, including culture, benefits, compliance, and wellness programs. In 2025, only two out of five employers achieved this distinction, with 42 qualifying in Indiana.
The university adopts a comprehensive approach to well-being, aligning its initiatives with industry best practices while utilizing the Bell Seal process to assess its progress and identify areas for enhancement annually.
Josh Mackey, vice president for human resources, stated, "Earning the Bell Seal is both an honor and a meaningful affirmation of Indiana University’s commitment to employee well-being. This recognition reflects the incredible work happening across every campus to make IU a healthy, supportive place to work. While we’re proud to earn platinum status again this year, the certification process challenges us to evaluate our practices, learn from best practices, and continuously improve how we support mental health across the university."
IU offers a range of free and low-cost mental health resources for employees and their families, including:
- 24/7 counseling, referrals, and mental health support through the SupportLinc employee assistance program.
- Virtual and in-person mental health counseling for IU medical plan members via Anthem and Marathon Health.
- Crisis support and self-guided well-being tools.
- Programs and workshops focused on stress, resilience, and mindfulness.
