A recent study indicates that drinking marijuana-infused tea before bedtime can enhance sleep quality and overall happiness. Conducted by researchers at Rajamangala University of Technology Isan in Thailand, the study involved 30 volunteers divided into three groups, each receiving tea with varying concentrations of cannabis: 3 percent, 5 percent, or 7 percent by weight.

Participants steeped marijuana leaves in hot water and consumed the tea 30 minutes prior to sleep for a week. Their happiness levels were measured using a 15-item questionnaire and a follow-up phone interview at the trial's conclusion. The study, published in the Journal of Health Science and Medical Research, showed a statistically significant increase in happiness among participants after consuming the cannabis-infused tea.
The groups receiving 5 and 7 percent cannabis reported improved sleep quality, with the 7 percent group achieving the highest happiness scores. The study noted that this preparation contributed to improvements in life satisfaction, emotional regulation, self-esteem, empathy, and family security. The researchers concluded that cannabis-infused tea may enhance happiness without side effects, suggesting it could be consumed at an optimal dosage for health benefits.
However, the researchers acknowledged that other herbal ingredients in the tea, like peppermint and stevia, might have influenced happiness levels. They emphasized the need for future studies to explore the long-term effects and safety of cannabis-infused tea.
This research adds to previous findings on the benefits of cannabis for mood and wellness. Earlier studies have suggested that adults consuming cannabis beverages often report decreased alcohol use alongside improvements in overall well-being and reductions in pain, stress, anxiety, and depression. Additionally, a survey from the American Academy of Sleep Medicine found that about two-thirds of Americans who use marijuana believe it aids their sleep. Furthermore, research involving over 3,500 patients indicated that those using medical marijuana experienced fewer negative side effects compared to prescription medications, particularly sleep aids.
