New York has initiated an online training program aimed at equipping mental health professionals with the skills to effectively support first responders, including 911 dispatchers, law enforcement officers, emergency medical technicians, and firefighters. This initiative is part of the state Office of Mental Health’s CARES UP program, which emphasizes suicide prevention and enhanced mental health support for these critical workers. Governor Kathy Hochul announced the launch of the program on September 29, coinciding with Suicide Prevention Month.
