Launched on Friday by the city's health department, NYC Mental Health Connect enables residents to search through services offered by over 600 providers via a simple online questionnaire. This tool helps users locate programs that cater to their specific age group, language, and insurance acceptance.

In addition to outpatient clinics and rehabilitation programs, the website includes crisis services and support for individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities. It also connects users to resources addressing related issues such as housing, food security, employment, and legal assistance.

Mayor Zohran Mamdani emphasized the importance of accessibility, stating, "Finding an accessible, affordable mental health provider should be simple, but for too many, the difficulty of finding care can prevent them from seeking the help they need. With NYC Mental Health Connect, our administration is providing New Yorkers with the tools to find local or virtual services quickly, and we are removing unnecessary obstacles that have prevented so many in need from accessing critical, and often lifesaving, mental health care."

This launch addresses recognized barriers to mental health care in the city. A 2024 report from the New York City Department of Health and Mental Hygiene revealed that 24% of teens needing or wanting mental health care weren't aware of where to find it. Furthermore, over 40% of adults who reported difficulty functioning due to mental health issues cited a lack of direction in finding treatment.

To support this initiative, the department allocated $5 million in one-time funding for the development and launch of the platform. Ashwin Vasan, the commissioner of DHMH, noted the ongoing efforts to combat stigma and inequities in mental health care while investing in community-centered support systems.

The new website also builds on the city's prior efforts to improve public services through digital solutions, including the mental health innovation challenge announced in 2021 aimed at enhancing mental health care support for New Yorkers.
