The Sangamon County Mental Health Board (SCMHB) has appointed Tatyana Gardner as its inaugural executive director, chosen from a pool of 11 candidates. Currently, Gardner is the director of health initiatives at the Springfield Urban League, where she leads various efforts, including substance abuse prevention and behavioral health initiatives, as well as maternal and child health programs.

In a statement, Gardner expressed her enthusiasm for the role, stating, "This is an extraordinary opportunity to build a strong, accountable organization that listens to our community, invests public resources wisely, and works collaboratively to improve behavioral health outcomes throughout Sangamon County. Having grown up here and building my career serving this community, this work is deeply meaningful to me."
Additionally, the SCMHB has selected Anthony Schuering from Brown, Hay & Stephens to serve as legal counsel. Gardner's term as executive director will commence on October 12.
