SIDNEY — Brad Reed, associate director and chief of community engagement/public information at the Tri-County Board of Recovery and Mental Health, addressed the Sidney Kiwanis Club on September 16. The board, established in 1968, is committed to planning, funding, and evaluating substance abuse and mental health services for Miami, Darke, and Shelby counties.

Reed highlighted the organization's efforts to provide high-quality, cost-effective services, ensuring that the community is well-informed and has access to these resources. Located at 1101 N. Vandemark Road in Sidney, Safehaven, Inc. serves as the local supportive service.
The Tri-County Board offers a variety of services, including hospitalization, inpatient treatment, recovery housing, detox programs, jail re-entry programs, counseling, education, outreach, prevention, and 24-hour crisis services. Those in need can reach the suicide and crisis lifeline at 988, or contact the hotline at 1-800-351-7347.
Fees for services depend on a person's ability to pay, and no one is denied services due to financial constraints. This is supported by federal and state tax funding, along with a local tax levy specifically for these services. A .6 mill, five-year renewal levy will appear on the ballot in November.
In addition, Lori Humphrey reported that the Kiwanis Club collected 309 canned goods during the Labor Day chicken barbecue, which were sorted and donated to the veterans food bank. The Builders Club also assisted with bingo at Dorothy Love.
