An open house and dedication event is scheduled for Wednesday from 5 to 7 p.m. at the center, located at 3835 Morse Street in Denton. The event, which is free to the public, will feature remarks from local leaders, including Denton County commissioners and executives from The Art Room, as well as refreshments.
The initiative aims to create an inviting environment for mental health treatment. According to The Art Room, the project title and concept emphasize that such treatment can foster curiosity, connection, and acceptance, thus promoting a healthy relationship with oneself and others. The art installations will enhance the waiting room, kids’ playroom, and family meeting room with global-themed decorations, including native trees, rocks, animals, and interactive features like crocheted animals and a mood flipboard.
All artwork was produced by local volunteers, artists, and craftsmen. Jess Pham, senior director of behavioral health services at the Denton County MHMR Center, expressed gratitude toward The Art Room for their contribution, stating the aim was to make the building feel welcoming for the children and families served by the center.
The project was funded through The Art Room’s North Texas Giving Day campaign, donations from individuals and corporations, and the volunteer efforts of many community members involved in the creation process. The Denton County MHMR Center functions as the Local Mental Health Authority for the county, offering a range of behavioral health services for children, adults, and families, regardless of financial ability. The Child & Adolescent Center specifically serves youth aged 3 to 17 and their families.
Since its inception in 2019, The Art Room has provided support to over 500 individuals suffering from mental health issues, offering free classes and open studios designed to promote personal growth and community connection.
