The race was part of a larger initiative that included a health resource fair, connecting attendees with various organizations across the region and working to reduce the stigma surrounding mental health.
Meredith Switzer, executive director of All Souls Counseling Center, emphasized the importance of discussing mental health: "We want people to know that there’s no shame in reaching out for help, that we all experience struggle sometimes, and we live in community, we support each other in community. If you find that you need help, reach out. That’s what we're here for. We want to really normalize those conversations."
The center's mission focuses on providing affordable and compassionate mental health care to everyone in western North Carolina.
