Roundabout Construction at Milton and Salmon Falls Roads Underway in Rochester

Rochester's Department of Public Works is currently improving the intersection of Milton Road and Salmon Falls Road by transforming it into a single-lane roundabout. This intersection sees over 12,000 vehicles each day and was highlighted for upgrades in the 2015 Milton Road Corridor Study.

The 2020 Transportation Master Plan also identified this intersection as needing improvements, further underscored by the opening of Sig Sauer, which increased anticipated traffic in the area.

Since 2020, the project concept and design have been presented at multiple Public Works Committee meetings, with a public informational meeting taking place in 2024.

The construction will involve the reconstruction of about 1,500 feet of Milton Road and Salmon Falls Road, replacing a 75-year-old water main, and extending the sewer for future developments. Additionally, a left-turn lane will be added on northbound Milton Road for access to Cross Road.

SUR has been awarded the contract with a winning bid of $4,973,351. Construction is expected to last until October 2027, with traffic control measures adjusting as necessary to maintain access to the intersection. For inquiries, the Department of Public Works can be contacted at (603) 332-4096.
