Therapists Brittany Dewbrew-Hale and Leila Mortazavi are organizing an event in Carmel to address the critical issue of maternal mental health in Indiana, where approximately 13 percent of mothers report symptoms of postpartum depression, surpassing the national average. Perinatal mood and anxiety disorders affect one in five pregnant and postpartum women, making them the most prevalent complication during this period.

The Climb, a free family-oriented event, will be held from 1 to 4 p.m. on October 4 at the Civic Square Gazebo, located at 1 Civic Square in Carmel. This initiative is conducted in collaboration with Postpartum Support International, the leading international organization focused on fundraising and awareness for perinatal mental health.
Dewbrew-Hale expressed the importance of raising awareness, stating, “We know there is a huge need for awareness around this, so we are really excited to have gathered all these people who share a passion for the cause.” Alongside Dewbrew-Hale and Mortazavi, Indianapolis-based therapist Mandi Metzger is also involved in organizing the event.
At least 15 community partners are expected to participate, providing resources and information. Mortazavi noted, “People can browse the tables and learn about the different resources around.” Additionally, a yoga instructor trained in perinatal yoga will lead meditation sessions, making the event family-friendly.
There will also be arts and crafts tables for children and a designated space to honor lost loved ones. The planning for this event began in February.
