As artificial intelligence (AI) transforms daily operations, business leaders in Hong Kong are realizing that the effectiveness of technology relies on the people who use it. A concerning trend is emerging, with over 80% of surveyed employees in Asia facing a moderate-to-high risk of mental health issues, alongside the significant burnout rate reported in Hong Kong.

Addressing workplace mental health in the AI era must go beyond administrative tasks or occasional social media posts. To facilitate this transition, Mind HK is launching the Pledge for Change campaign in honor of World Mental Health Day. This initiative, centered on the theme “Everything’s Better When Mental Health Matters,” is designed to provide HR executives and leaders with practical tools to bolster workforce stability and productivity while fostering long-term corporate resilience.

It is crucial to embed mental health support into the everyday culture and operations of organizations. When employees feel supported and able to seek help early, it benefits not only the individuals but also the organizations that employ them. Candice Powell, CEO of Mind HK, emphasizes the importance of ensuring people are not left behind as technology advances.

While Hong Kong has made strides in discussing mental health, increased awareness alone is insufficient. Events like World Mental Health Day or lunchtime webinars are beneficial, but a critical question remains: What happens for the rest of the year? Are managers prepared to respond to employees in need, and do employees know how to access help?

Mind HK acknowledges that organizations are at different stages regarding mental health initiatives. Some have established programs seeking to enhance engagement, while others may require assistance to initiate their efforts. The Pledge for Change offers a flexible, year-round approach, including resources for workplace mental health, training opportunities, and guidance towards the Mental Health Workplace Charter. In addition, corporate participation will support Mind HK’s broader community initiatives, including the iACT® program, which provides free psychological support for those facing anxiety and depression in Hong Kong.

This approach aims to foster healthier workplaces while making mental health resources more accessible throughout the community. Building a mentally healthy workplace requires ongoing commitment, supportive leadership, and a culture that encourages individuals to seek help before reaching their breaking point.

Organizations are encouraged to take action by participating in Mind HK’s Pledge for Change, contributing to a mentally healthier Hong Kong. For more information or involvement, contact [email protected].
