
The University of Arizona (U of A) held its second annual Sleep Research Symposium on January 30 at the Health Sciences Innovation Building, attracting 115 attendees—91 in person and 24 virtually. Organized by the Center for Sleep, Circadian & Neuroscience Research (CSCNR) in collaboration with the Division of Pulmonary, Allergy, Critical Care & Sleep Medicine at the College of Medicine – Tucson, the event focused on advancing research and collaboration in the fields of sleep and circadian science.

Keynote speakers included Lora Reineck, M.D., M.S., director of the Comparative Clinical Effectiveness Research Program at the Patient-Centered Outcomes Research Institute (PCORI), who discussed advancements in patient-centered research, and Phyllis C. Zee, M.D., Ph.D., director of Northwestern University’s Center for Circadian & Sleep Medicine, who spoke on the health impacts of sleep, eating, and light.
The symposium featured panel and roundtable discussions, a lab tour, poster presentations, and several "data blitz" presentations, providing opportunities for networking and mentorship. Participants represented various U of A colleges, including Education, Medicine, and Science, as well as experts from PCORI and Northwestern University.
Sairam Parthasarathy, M.D., the CSCNR director, and U of A provost Patricia A. Prelock, Ph.D., opened the event. The symposium also recognized scholarly achievements, awarding Jungwon Cha, Ph.D., the Outstanding Mentor Award and Suzanne Gorovoy, Ph.D., the Outstanding Investigator Award.
The event emphasized the importance of collaboration and engagement among researchers, trainees, and institutional leaders, showcasing significant contributions to the field.
