Over the next few weeks, approximately 250 tenth graders will be invited to participate from eight randomly selected schools across the country. In the following two years, children aged 9 and 6 will also be recruited for the study.

This is the first comprehensive survey of dietary habits among 15-year-olds in Iceland in nearly 25 years, highlighting the urgent need for updated, reliable data regarding this age group's nutrition and consumption patterns. Alongside dietary assessments, biological samples will be collected to evaluate the participants' nutritional status.

Organizers emphasize that strong participation is crucial for the study's accuracy and its potential impact on public health initiatives. They urge all selected participants to join in order to provide a robust foundation for nutrition-related policy-making and health promotion strategies aimed at children and adolescents.

The Ministry of Health is funding the initiative, with project oversight provided by Hólmfríður Þorgeirsdóttir, Project Manager for Nutrition at the Directorate of Health, and Inga Þórsdóttir, Professor Emerita at the University of Iceland.
