This initiative, executed through Oura Labs, aims to explore connections between daily patterns of rest, stress, and behavior and their impacts on cognitive function and performance over time, rather than solely focusing on diagnosed conditions.
ŌURA, known for its leading smart ring, encompasses a consumer health platform that tracks sleep, activity, stress, cardiovascular, and metabolic health, and collaborates with over 1,200 organizations across various sectors. The study will integrate Cambridge Cognition's CANTAB Pathway™ assessments, specifically CANTAB One and CANTAB Insight, into the Oura app as short in-app tasks. Up to 45,000 Oura members will participate in this observational research program through 2026, completing these assessments while their physiological data is continuously tracked.
The aim is to better understand how factors like sleep and activity influence cognitive health and function. The program will also evaluate user engagement with cognitive assessments alongside health data derived from wearables and self-reports. Insights gained from this combined data are expected to inform future developments in scalable brain health applications.
This partnership follows Cambridge Cognition's recent expansion in the healthcare and consumer markets and builds on previous initiatives, such as Project Intuition, a remote cognitive assessment study with Biogen and Apple involving 23,000 participants. CEO Rob Baker remarked that Oura's combination of scientific credibility and consumer reach makes them an ideal collaborator, helping to extend cognitive assessment technology beyond traditional settings.
Shyamal Patel, Ph.D., Senior Vice President of Science at Oura, commented on the importance of pairing cognitive assessments with real-time physiological data to explore the relationship between everyday behaviors and cognitive performance, thus creating a foundation for future tools aimed at supporting long-term brain health.
