This expansion follows the company’s partnership with the American Medical Group Association aimed at increasing access to in-network psychiatric care, as well as a $210 million Series D funding round earlier this year. According to co-founder and Chief Medical Officer Dr. Georgia Gaveras, the rapid growth of telehealth has made mental healthcare more accessible but also resulted in fragmented services that can confuse patients who move or travel.
Dr. Gaveras emphasized the need for centralized and collaborative care, where psychiatrists and therapists work together for optimal patient outcomes. Nationally, only about 50% of nearly 60 million adults with mental illness receive treatment, and the average wait for behavioral health services is 48 days. Many patients face challenges when working with separate providers, often leading to communication gaps and ineffective treatment.
Research indicates that patients who see both a Talkiatry therapist and psychiatrist are twice as likely to maintain their care long-term compared to those receiving only psychiatric services. Nearly 85% of Talkiatry therapists establish a positive relationship with their patients within the first month of treatment.
The company aims to create a unified mental health experience, improving continuity of care through its model that combines psychiatric and therapy services within the same care team. Talkiatry's approach has positioned it as a trusted partner for health systems, payers, and referring physicians. The recent expansion into therapy services marks a significant step toward broadening access to comprehensive mental health care across the country.
