The collaboration will unite prominent health and medical researchers to develop new solutions for global health challenges. Monash University Vice-Chancellor and President, Professor Sharon Pickering, and Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Research and Enterprise) Professor Robyn Ward AM met with Weill Cornell Medicine’s Senior Associate Dean of International Affairs and Affiliations, Dr. Michael G. Stewart, at the Weill Cornell campus in New York City on Tuesday.

Professor Pickering emphasized that collaboration between researchers and clinicians from both institutions would enhance health research and patient outcomes. "Tackling global health challenges increasingly depends on collaboration and partnerships to deliver impactful world-leading research and innovation at scale," she said.

Dr. Stewart added that international partnerships are vital for keeping pace with rapidly evolving healthcare research. "To be a leader in healthcare, we need to think beyond our borders," he stated. He highlighted the importance of working with Monash to explore areas such as artificial intelligence in healthcare.

This partnership builds on Monash’s expanding research presence in North America, particularly through the Monash Boston Hub established in Kendall Square, a leading life sciences ecosystem. Located at the Cambridge Innovation Centre, the Hub was created to enhance connections between North American biotech, pharmaceutical, and medtech companies and Monash’s research and clinical trial capabilities. "Industry moves fast, and commercialization shouldn’t slow down while companies try to find the right expertise," Professor Pickering remarked, noting that the Hub facilitates the transition of high-value intellectual property from early discovery to clinical development.
