Research indicates that plant-based diets can lead to improved health outcomes, although access to healthy foods remains a challenge for many individuals. Medically tailored grocery programs are emerging as a solution, delivering health-focused foods directly to those in need, often prioritizing whole foods over highly processed options found in some meal programs. A study conducted with recipients of the Massachusetts General Hospital food pantry revealed that receiving deliveries of fruits, vegetables, beans, nut butters, and whole grains resulted in better diastolic blood pressure, reduced weight, and lower BMI. Additional studies of similar initiatives have suggested that these programs may also lead to cost savings by lowering medical expenses.
