Community Mourns Fairview Pizzeria Owner Greg Smith, Family Advocates for Mental Health Awareness

His brother, Spencer Smith, shared that Greg had been struggling with depression and anxiety, which was exacerbated by the family's recent loss of their father to suicide. "I lost my dad a year and two months ago. I just recently lost my brother this week to suicide," Spencer said, highlighting the family's ongoing battle with mental health issues.

Greg Smith was remembered fondly by his family and friends for his cooking and community spirit. According to Spencer, Greg and his wife, Stephanie, cherished bringing people together through food. However, he noted that his brother often kept his mental health struggles to himself, saying, "He just thought he could do it himself."

Greg leaves behind his wife, children, and grandchildren. A GoFundMe campaign has been established to assist with funeral expenses and support for Stephanie.

As Spencer navigates his grief, he finds solace in caring for horses at his ranch, Crossing Arrows Ranch, in Corrine. In light of the family’s losses, he has also strengthened his commitment to providing equine therapy services through a nonprofit he started years ago after another family friend died by suicide.

Spencer emphasized the importance of discussing mental health and seeking help, stating, "We have a crisis." Data from the Utah Department of Health and Human Services indicates that in 2023, suicide was the second-leading cause of death for Utahns aged 10 to 44, with higher rates among males.

His message to those struggling is clear: "You're not alone in that situation. There is help out there. There are people that love you. Your family loves you. Whatever is going through your head, don't give up."
