The event included a ribbon-cutting ceremony at the Sunrise Canyon Complex, located at 1905 Aspen Avenue. This celebration marked the completion of the expanded Sunrise Canyon Hospital and the establishment of the Hope Center, both aimed at improving the crisis behavioral health continuum of care for Lubbock and the surrounding areas.
These facilities were developed through significant state and local funding, aiming to increase the availability of inpatient psychiatric beds and crisis stabilization services throughout the region. The newly expanded facility spans 70,000 square feet and accommodates 60 inpatient beds, operated by StarCare Specialty Health System. It serves as a behavioral health crisis continuum of care and diversion center, focusing on assessing and treating individuals facing acute mental health or substance use crises to redirect them away from hospital emergency rooms and jails.
The complex includes an emergent assessment and observation diversion center, a treatment mall, six therapeutic courtyards, and a half-court gymnasium designed for recreational therapy.
Crisis services are available 24/7 at the Sunrise Canyon Complex, which can be contacted at 806-740-1421 or through its 24-hour crisis line at 806-740-1414. More information about StarCare and its services can be found on their website.
