Free Mental Health First Aid Training for SIU Faculty and Staff

Southern Illinois University Carbondale’s Wellness and Health Promotion Services is offering free mental health first aid certification for its faculty and staff. The training will take place in two in-person sessions: Friday, October 2, and Tuesday, November 24.

The course aims to equip participants with the skills to identify, understand, and respond to signs of mental health issues and substance use. It covers common indicators associated with these challenges and provides guidance on how to assist individuals in crisis by connecting them to appropriate resources.

Each session runs from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. in the Student Services Building, rooms 150/160. Due to limited capacity, each session can accommodate up to 30 attendees, so early registration is recommended. Interested individuals may sign up through the mental health first aid training page or by emailing [email protected]. Participants are required to attend only one session.

Upon successful completion of the course, attendees will receive certification from the National Council for Mental Wellbeing as Mental Health First Aid (MHFA) certified.
