NAMI provides monthly support groups for individuals dealing with mental health issues as well as for their friends and family. These gatherings include educational sessions and refreshments, and they are held in both Sioux Center and Spencer, including options for online participation. Additionally, NAMI offers a program called “In Your Own Voice,” which promotes community conversations about mental health.
The walk emphasized support for those affected by mental illness, underlining the motto “no one walks alone.” Kir Cosgrove, vice president of NAMI Northwest Iowa, stated that the event showcased community unity and solidarity in supporting each other.
Cosgrove also encouraged those experiencing a mental health crisis to reach out by calling or texting 988. She emphasized the importance of listening and providing reassurance to individuals facing mental health challenges.
