Ahmed bin Abdullah Al Shabibi, Head of the Zulfa Centre for Psychological and Family Counselling, delivered an awareness lecture, conducted an interactive workshop, and provided individual consultations. He emphasized the importance of mental health as a key component of quality of life, assisting individuals in self-understanding, stress management, building meaningful relationships, and meeting daily responsibilities.
Al Shabibi discussed the relationship between thoughts, emotions, and behaviors, explaining that understanding these connections can help individuals respond more effectively rather than react impulsively. He noted that automatic thoughts may distort reality, particularly when stress leads to negative interpretations.
The presentation covered common cognitive patterns that may contribute to psychological distress, such as overgeneralization, which tends to focus solely on negative aspects while neglecting broader context. Al Shabibi outlined practical strategies for individuals to reassess their thoughts, which include identifying their thoughts, evaluating evidence, considering alternative interpretations, and opting for constructive responses.
