At approximately 10:45 p.m., officers arrived at the home, where they were met by the 911 caller. They were guided to the room where the man was located, hearing yelling as they approached and learning that another family member was also in the space.
Upon entering the room, the officers successfully removed the family member for safety. According to Lt. Courtney White, as one officer entered the room, the man became agitated and brandished a large knife. The officer issued multiple commands for the man to drop the weapon, but he did not comply and advanced towards the officer instead.
In response, the officer discharged their weapon several times, striking the man. First aid was rendered on-site until paramedics arrived and transported him to the hospital, where he was pronounced dead. The identity of the man has not yet been disclosed.
No other individuals were injured during the incident. The Arlington Police Department has launched both criminal and administrative investigations, placing all four responding officers on administrative leave pending the outcomes of these inquiries.
