Marshfield, Wis. — Marshfield Clinic has been awarded a nearly $580,000 federal grant over three years to enhance mental health education and access in 17 counties across central, northern, and western Wisconsin. The funding, provided by the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration, will support community and staff training, establish behavioral health referral pathways, and implement outreach efforts, including the hiring of a mental health navigator to assist youth and young adults in obtaining care.

The initiative will particularly target Barron, Clark, Oneida, Price, Rusk, and Vilas counties, areas that face significant provider shortages and barriers to accessing behavioral health services. Notably, this rural region includes 14 counties designated as Mental Health Professional Shortage Areas.

Jay Shrader, Marshfield Clinic’s vice president of Community Impact and Social Accountability, emphasized the critical need for mental health services in the communities served. He stated, "This funding helps us build on existing efforts while creating new opportunities for impact."
