Mindy Anthony Spolski, Executive Director of Counseling, Health and Advocacy Services, who joined the College this summer, collaborated with Athletic Director Tim Green and Assistant Athletic Director for Sports Medicine Sarah Duren to organize the event. Spolski emphasized the importance of mental health resources on campus, stating that ages 18 to 25 often mark the time when individuals experience their first depressive or anxiety episodes or disclose past trauma.

She explained that most traditional college students fall within this age range, making mental health a crucial issue due to factors such as separation from family, adjustment challenges, and academic pressures. Spolski also pointed out that many students at Eckerd come from extensive distances; the student body includes participants from 48 states, over 30 countries, and numerous U.S. territories, with about 80% of students hailing from outside Florida.
